Holistic Heat Pump Design

View Recording

In the current energy landscape, heat production has and continues to predominantly rely on fossil fuels. However, with growing concerns about sustainability and the environment, heat pumps have garnered significant attention due to their potential to harness sustainable energy sources. These systems offer a viable solution to meet stringent environmental standards by either complementing or replacing traditional boilers. Therefore, it is imperative to optimize the design and operation of these systems to utilize these resources efficiently.

Holistic Heat Pump Design

The performance of heat pumps is heavily dependent on the efficiency of their main elements, particularly in the context of closed-loop cycles. These elements are intricately interconnected, each affecting the other. With this in mind, it is imperative that system-level modeling and component design and analysis work in synergy to optimize the unit’s performance while significantly reducing project development time (up to 65%).

In this webinar, we will tackle a challenging multi-disciplinary task by focusing on the holistic simulation and design of a vapor compression cycle, including the simultaneous design of the corresponding compressors. Our goal is to establish a single source of truth for the system and its elements.

The webinar session will include:

  • Brief overview of refrigeration systems
  • Coupled modeling of vapor compressor systems (VCS) and VCS compressor design

Who should attend?

  • Engineers and engineering managers involved in the digital engineering of heat pump systems and/or components (including but not limited to those involved in thermodynamic cycles, turbomachinery, secondary flow systems, etc.)
  • Engineers and decision-makers interested in sustainable heat generation
  • Engineers seeking efficient and reliable tools for modeling systems at various levels of fidelity and integration
  • Engineering managers interested in reducing project lead time and resources through digital engineering and coupled simulations
  • Engineering students looking to better understand vapor compression cycles
