Generative Design for Cutting-Edge Turbomachinery Development

View Recording

Although generative design is a more recent buzzword, it characterizes a design approach that has been around for quite some time. Rather than producing one geometry for one value of each input (such as boundary conditions, flow coefficients, number of stages, etc.), generative design allows you to create thousands of designs within minutes that you can review, compare, and filter to select the one that best suits your needs. Want to prioritize size? Performance? Ease of manufacturing? Something else? Through generative design, the sky’s the limit.  Instead of shooting your dart, seeing where it lands, adjusting your aim, and trying again, you can use ranges for all the input parameters you would like to consider (diameter, rotation speed, reaction, and more) and throw all the darts at once so you can review on your design space what combinations of inputs provides you with the best output. From there, you can choose to throw another batch to cover new regions or zone in on where you found the best results previously to see if you can get something even better. All in the time it takes you to drink a cup of coffee. 90-95 percent of efficiency challenges are solved in the early phases of a design project, so its success or failure is very much dependent on a strong start.

Generative Design for Cutting-Edge Turbomachinery Development

In this webinar, you will learn about what generative design is, how it works in AxSTREAM, and how to implement it into your turbomachinery development workflow. Attendees will be walked through the same time-saving no-headache process that is currently being utilized by hundreds of SoftInWay clients to develop better turbomachines. By the end of this session, you’ll have a clear picture of how generative design can help you :

  • Drastically reduce development time and cost
  • Easily explore new concepts to not only compete but shape the industry
  • Improve accessibility of turbomachinery design to younger engineers

This session will include:

  • Brief introduction to generative design methodology and benefits
  • Generative design workflow in AxSTREAM® for new turbomachinery designs
  • Selection process for best geometry (including for off-design performance)
  • Examples of how to extend this concept to develop whole systems ensuring their components will work together reliably and efficiently through workflow automation/batch mode
