Embry Riddle Aeronautical University will leverage AxSTREAM in their research

Students of the Gas Turbine Lab at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) spend much of their research on jet propulsion, green gas turbine engine technology, lean engineering and waste heat recovery. Starting next semester however, these students will be able to increase their research capabilities by leveraging AxSTREAM Edu.

SoftInWay Inc., an international engineering firm specializing in turbomachinery software, training and consulting, is providing AxSTREAM Edu licenses to the ERAU Gas Turbine Laboratory. AxSTREAM Edu is an educational version of the company’s flagship software and provides students with a set of modern design tools that are used in the industry.

Each year, SoftInWay donates AxSTREAM Edu for teams competing in the Team Engine Design Competition held by the AIAA and the ASME IGTI. After competing in the competition, ERAU gained appreciation for the tool and decided to incorporate AxSTREAM into its research and curriculum.

“We are honored that Embry Riddle is going to use our software,” said Valentine Moroz, COO of SoftInWay. “This is one of the best schools for aerospace and propulsion studies and we really hope the students will benefit from it and come out with some really great research. We’re always excited to work with universities.”

“Working with SoftInWay has been great,” said Dr. Magdy Attia, assistant professor for the Department of Aerospace Engineering at ERAU, “We’re excited to give software access to the student body and really ramp up our research and work on some really cool stuff.”

AxSTREAM and its versions of AxSTREAM Edu and AxSTREAM Lite are currently implemented in over 30 international university curricula with over 1,000 student users and used in over 150 commercial companies worldwide.

Improving turbomachinery design for students of Pusan National University

BURLINGTON, MASS – Beginning next semester, students of Pusan National University will be able to increase their research capabilities by leveraging AxSTREAM. SoftInWay, Korean Simulation Technology and Pusan National University have partnered together to provide students with the industry standard design tool for the College of Engineering.

SoftInWay, Inc., a provider of turbomachinery design software, training and consulting services hopes to demonstrate the importance of turbomachinery flow path design for undergraduate and graduate students in universities across the globe, by equipping them with modern design tools.

One laboratory in particular will leverage the use of AxSTREAM in the university’s technology center to perform extensive research that includes turbines and heat exchangers. Prof. ChangMin Son, deputy director for the Rolls-Royce-Pusan National University Technology Center (UTC) chose AxSTREAM as the best tool his students.

“For the current and developing research projects underway at UTC, the use of AxSTREAM will be very beneficial to my students. AxSTREAM was chosen for its straight-forward design which is easy to use and very accurate with performance and calculations. This will have a huge impact on our entire design process,” said Son.

“I’m looking very forward to working with Pusan National University. They are an internationally top-ranked school and I know they will come out with some compelling research. I anticipate that their students will benefit from using our software,” said Dr. Leonid Moroz, CEO of SoftInWay.

Education is important to SoftInWay and its partners. Currently, AxSTREAM and its software family have over 150 customers worldwide with over 30 international universities that teach turbomachinery using AxSTREAM.

With the implementation of design software in the classroom continuing to grow, SoftInWay is hopeful that the demand for more designers in the industry will be met substantially, and students will meet job requirements before they are hired in the workforce.

New AxCYCLE™ Software Release Optimizes Waste Heat Recovery Cycles

BURLINGTON, MASS – SoftInWay, Inc., an international engineering firm specializing in turbomachinery consulting, education and software has officially announced the latest features for AxCYCLE, with the release of version 2.3. With this update, the system’s new tools are available to all users, but waste heat recovery application engineers, particularly in the automotive industry, should take notice.

AxCYCLE offers ultrafast and reliable calculations for heat balance and thermodynamic simulations. The product, released back in late September 2013, was under development for the last few months to focus on several key features.

One major development is an extended and comprehensive fluid library that will help engineers develop more models and cycles specifically tailored for waste heat recovery for internal combustion engines. Users will also experience improved mapping functionalities and graphics and be able to run multipoint analysis for different operating conditions.

AxCYCLE also contains a built-in OEM internal combustion engine library and an OEM gas turbine library; both of which can be customized.

“We listened to what our clients had to say. They told us they needed a library of engines and now we’re providing it. But we’re also giving more. We are proud to say we are the first to deliver these capabilities to the waste heat recovery industry. We’ve developed the capability to work with all major fluids which are utilized in waste heat recovery systems and we created a visualized infrastructure to track changes in fluid conditions during the expansion and compression processes. It’s a simplified process for choosing the right range of operation of machinery,” said Dr. Leonid Moroz, president and CEO of SoftInWay, Inc.

This software release is in full operation now and SoftInWay is offering a free 30 day trial to new users through the AxCYCLE website, www.axcycle.com.
