On April 25-26 an international scientific and technical conference titled “Techical and Process Gases – Compressor Equipment in Processing,” was held at “Ukrrosmetall” Concern in Sumy, Ukraine. Established in 1994, the Concern is one of the fastest growing groups in Eastern Europe specializing in compressor and valve engineering and production, power project management and information technology.

Science and engineering experts from Ukraine, Russia, Byelorussia, Vietnam and a number of other countries took part. More than 40 reports were included in the conference program. One plenary session lecture was devoted to the application of modern IT technologies to compressor engineering.

Among the speakers was Mr. Petr Pagur of SoftInWay who presented a paper with the theme, “AxSTREAM – Powerful Tool For Axial and Radial Turbomachinery Flow Path Conceptual Design. Mr. Pagur reported that the new advances and developments in AxSTREAM were received with considerable interest. “I was very pleased to represent AxSTREAM to such a stalwart community of experts and specialists,” stated Mr. Pagur. “It was doubly pleasing to see that the software was appreciated at its true worth.”

The latest version 2.0 for AxSTREAM now incorporates a fully automated FEA based structural analysis program called AxSTRESS. This FEA program includes an automatic mesh generator, FEA solver and 3D model viewer. AxSTRESS solves von Mises stress and stress tensor components, and performs modal analysis natural frequency calculations. AxSTRESS has been developed to address the following structural tasks:

• Calculation of stresses and natural frequencies of blade and nozzle airfoils
• Calculation of stresses and natural frequencies of shrouded blade with portion of disk
• Calculation of stresses and natural frequencies of nozzle airfoils with diaphragm and outer ring
• Calculation of stresses and natural frequencies of a grouping of shrouded or unshrouded blades with portion of disk
• Calculation of stresses and natural frequencies of a grouping of shrouded or unshrouded nozzle airfoils with portion diaphragm and outer ring.
