Thursday, July 22, 2010
From: SoftInWay Inc.

Dear friends and colleagues,

I take great pleasure in presenting you SoftInWay’s Summer 2010 newsletter. We are excited to unveil our latest achievements in the areas of development of turbomachinery design software and engineering education. We would also like to update you on our latest event schedule.

To succeed in today’s highly competitive power generation and aerospace industries, one should focus on technology development, be able to face increasing pressure to find energy-efficient techniques and always consider engineering time and costs. Taking into account the basic challenges most engineers are seeking to overcome while designing/optimizing a turbomachinery flow path, SoftInWay has presented AxSTREAM 3.0 – advanced software suite for turbomachinery design, optimization and retrofitting. The latest AxSTREAM upgrades are dedicated to pushing the industry forward by improving the engineering process.

In addition to advancing the engineering process, it is also important to educate the up and coming engineers, because people change the world, not machines. SoftInWay’s courses calendar is constantly expanding to provide turbomachinery design professionals and student alike with training and inspiration. We offer a full range of intensive classroom-based and new online courses developed by the leading engineering experts from SoftInWay.

All in all, I hope this newsletter will help you pick up some useful information about the turbomachinery industry.

Thank you for staying with us,

Dr. Leonid Moroz,
SoftInWay President and CEO

The upcoming classroom training courses for the second part of 2010 are as follows:

Mechanical and aerospace engineers who aspire to develop their design skills but are not able to attend classroom training are invited to take part in online courses:

  • Axial Turbine: Sept 6-16; Oct 25 - Nov 4; Dec 7-16
  • Radial Turbine: Sept 7-15; Oct 26 - Nov 3
  • Axial Compressor: Sept 27 - Oct 7; Nov 29 - Dec 9
  • Radial Compressor: Sept 28 - Oct 6; Nov 23 - Dec 2

In continuation of the webinar series, SoftInWay announces the next webinar – AxSTREAM Validation. Real Software for Real Life – that will be held in autumn (the exact date will be determined later, please check our website http://www.softinway.com/education/webinar.asp).

“I am very satisfied with presentation of AxSTREAM 3.0 and surprised that it looks easy and clear calculations and results that you present. From my point of view it will be so good to have this software and I want to congratulate to the group that is involved in this presentation.”

To fulfill the growing demand for turbomachinery design training, SoftInWay has launched online courses. As classroom-based training, they are focused on familiarizing engineers with design, analysis and optimization of turbomachinery flow path, yet the Web-based courses feature a flexible schedule and require no travel costs.

There are four online courses available: Axial Turbine, Axial Compressor, Radial Turbine and Radial Compressor. During 12-16 hours of study (2 hours per day) the trainees are taught turbomachinery design through lectures, tutorials, practical exercises, reviewing of home tasks and consultation with instructors. The course scope is comprehensive and includes:

  • Theory and practice of preliminary design
  • Map generation and flow path optimization using Design of Experiment
  • Profiling, 3D blade design, 3D FEA structural and vibration analysis, and 3D CFD flow path calculations
  • Analysis and redesign of existing turbomachinery

“The online course was definitely full of all the information that a newbie has to receive in order to understand deeply how SoftInWay’s AxSTREAM works. Support from tutors was very professional and decisive in all the phases of the course. I want especially to underline their kindness and patience.”

  • On June 14-18 SoftInWay took part in ASME Turbo Expo 2010 – an annual gas turbine technical congress and exposition. In the course of the congress the company’s team presented two papers: New and Advanced Capabilities for Multidisciplinary Design and Optimization of Turbomachinery Flow Path and Analyzing Turbine and Compressor Performance to Optimize the Costs of Manufacturing, Repairs and Overhauls.
  • Just before Turbo Expo, on June 11-13, SoftInWay organized AxSTREAM Workshop where the industry experts shared best practices for turbomachinery flow path design and optimization.
  • On June 8-10, during Power Gen Europe in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, the company’s team showcased the features of AxSTREAM 3.0.
  • SoftInWay hosted an introductory seminar presenting the latest capabilities of AxSTREAM to the Japanese engineering community. The seminar took place on May 18, in Yaesu, Tokyo.
  • On May 17-21, in Malmo, Sweden, SoftInWay held new training – Steam and Gas Turbine Design. This 5-day course is based on Axial Turbine Fundamentals course yet it includes multiple examples and practical tasks to intensify the education process. Steam and Gas Turbine Design addresses engineers specializing in axial turbines and comprises such critical topics as fundamental stage parameters, initial turbine sizing, profiling, blade design, tertiary components, and turbine maintenance and retrofitting.
