Free Webinar for Mechanical and Aerospace Engineers

Every 1-2 months SoftInWay runs free webinars for engineers involved in the design and optimization of axial, radial and mixed flow turbomachinery. The 40-minute presentation discloses new effective approaches to the main mechanical and aerospace engineering challenges, such as the analysis of axial compressor performance, redesign of steam and gas turbines etc. After the presentation SoftInWay encourages participants to ask questions and get a professional opinion during an open forum.

Design of the High-Efficiency Turbochargers

The interest in turbochargers continues to explode due to the constant desire to increase the power output and efficiency of engines while minimizing their energy footprints in accordance with the more and more restraining eco-standards. The use of turbochargers not only allows to increase the power, it also greatly reduces the toxic emissions (such as carbon dioxide) since turbochargers take a by-product of the engine that would otherwise be wasted, and use it to produce more power. The increase of specific power combined with the decrease of the fuel rate allows to obtain designs with higher efficiencies.

The idea of turbochargers use appeared at the end of the 19th century. Since then the designs have evolved and the efficiency has significantly improved. The purpose of a turbocharger is to compress the air entering an engine to increase the amount of oxygen that is admitted and therefore maximize the power output. The advantage of compressed air is that it maximizes the air intake into the cylinder, and more air in the engine means that more fuel can be added (for a similar fuel/air mixture ratio).

The software suite from SoftInWay lets you model every phase of the design for engines with a turbocharger from cycle analysis (AxCYCLE - CH) and entire turbomachinery elements design (AxSTREAM), which also includes CFD and FEA analysis (AxCFD and AxSTRESS), to easy turbine-compressor matching and analysis of the combined operation points. Since AxCYCLE –CH is based on numerous thermodynamics cycle models to choose from, you can design and analyze turbocompressors elements (compressor and turbine) efficiently in a very short time.

This webinar will cover:

  • Overview of turbocharger technology history;
  • Features of turbochargers;
  • Modern turbocharger designs;
  • Scope of application for the different types of turbochargers;
  • Estimation of the turbocharger application rationality in modern cycles for engines;
  • Presentation of the capabilities of SoftInWay newest software AxCYCLE CH - calculation and analysis of thermodynamic cycle for the engine with turbocharger and intercooler system;
  • Detailed flow path design process in AxSTREAM™;
  • CFD and FEA analysis of the obtained designs in AxCFD and AxSTRESS respectively;
  • The analysis of the turbocharger elements combined operation.

Who Should Attend:

  • Engines manufacturers;
  • Turbochargers manufacturers;
  • Mechanical engineers working on conceptual turbocharger design;
  • Everyone interested in how SoftInWay Inc. and our software can help you with creating more efficient Turbomachinery.
