Boston: Structural Engineer – Gas Turbines

Position will be located in Burlington, Massachusetts, USA.

SoftInWay is looking to hire an experienced structural engineer with project management and technical skills that include thermal and mechanical/structural design of steam and gas turbines, compressors and pumps.

This position requires a strong background in Stress analysis, Dynamics, Vibrations and Fatigue & Fracture Mechanics. Specific knowledge in Structural Analysis of cooled gas turbines, particularly cooled blades design and analysis is an advantage. The applicant performs structural analysis of various turbomachinery components such as blades, shafts, rotors, casing, valves, bearings, impellers, etc. This position involves close interaction with aero-thermal, mechanical design and CAD team to design state of the art turbomachinery components, redesign existing components to meet design requirements and working with customers to understand requirements and specifications.

This position will also be responsible for performing Rotor dynamics analysis, selecting and investigating materials for use in specific applications. The applicant should also be able to devise methodologies for prediction of mechanical strength and reliability.

The applicant must possess a strong aptitude toward mechanical design and analytical thinking and the ability to focus on details, proven track record for technical excellence, practical approach, and excellent communication skills. The applicant should be able to lead and succeed in an integrated project team environment and should be able work under limited direction.

Required Skills/Knowledge/Experience

  • S., M.S. required in Mechanical engineering, Aerospace engineering, or related discipline.
  • 5+ years of Structure/Analytical experience in FEA in ANSYS or other commercial CAD &CAE packages is required.
  • PhD in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering is preferred.
  • At least 3 years professional experience in major gas Turbine OEM, including GE, Siemens, Alstom, Rolls Royce & etc.
